Giovanni Simeone’s hat-trick for Hellas Verona against Venezia sparked new speculation of a summer move to Newcastle United or his father Diego’s Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine hadn’t yet scored in Serie A during 2022, but broke that drought in style with three in the Derby del Veneto at the weekend.
It made him third top scorer in Serie A this term with 15 goals, behind only Ciro Immobile and Dusan Vlahovic.

Simeone recently received a call-up from the Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni and is eager to be included in the 2022 World Cup squad.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Simeone is attracting plenty of attention from clubs too, with Newcastle United still on the look-out for a striker.
An intriguing proposition would see Cholito reunite with Cholo himself, as Giovanni is the son of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone.
There had already been January approaches from Sevilla and Olympique Marseille, so the hat-trick is likely to further boost interest in the 26-year-old.
He is technically on loan from Cagliari, but Hellas Verona have an option to buy for €12m that it looks like they will certainly activate to then sell on at a profit.
