Juventus legend Michel Platini believes that Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi should have moved to the USA or China and praises Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus.
The former France striker released an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper to comment on the Serie A title race. His ex club Juventus seem no longer involved in the battle for the Scudetto, but the 66-year-old sees similarities between Allegri’s squad and his side coached by Giovanni Trapattoni in the 80s.
“They are similar. Juventus is a team with strong values. A team that plays with counter-attacks and score goals in a smart and powerful way.
“It’s based on defensive solidity, which is in Juventus’ DNA. Once upon a time with Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini and Scirea, then with the BBC. Andrea Agnelli once told me that the problem would be to replace them.
“Italian football is not as offensive as the English one, but then they meet in Europe and English teams don’t even touch the ball,” Platini continued.
“I like this variety. There are coaches like Pep Guardiola and Allegri. It’s boring to see two tiki-taka teams facing each other.”
Platini is impressed by Dusan Vlahovic although he ‘did not know him’ before.
“He looks really strong if he keeps scoring at this rate; maybe he misses the final pass.
“I was so moved when Paulo Dybala imitated my celebration. I sent him a text after that. It’s so nice to see him play. He is left-footed and technical, like Omar Sivori.”
Cristiano Ronaldo scored 101 goals in 134 appearances with Juventus but the Bianconeri did not make any step forward in Europe as they would expect when CR7 arrived in 2018.
“I respect Ronaldo and Messi, but I retired at 32. I could have joined Barcelona or Marseille, but I wanted to be identified with the club that I had made history with,” the former striker said.
“Ronaldo was Real Madrid and Messi was Barcelona. If I were them, I would have moved to the USA or China, not to another big club.”
The former striker believes that the Argentinean should not have won the Ballon d’Or in 2021.
“Who won the Champions League and the Euros? Jorginho.”
Last but not least, Platini criticised Alexander Ceferin and Gianni Infantino.
“I don’t respect them, but I say it with lightness,” he admitted.
“They can do everything they want. I am out. I will never forgive those who falsely accused me, making me leave football. They won, but I will always look for justice.”
